City Cottage Market at 1666 Kingston Rd in Scarborough blends the convenience of a neighborhood grocery with the relaxed vibe of a café and bar. It’s a versatile spot where you can settle in for a thoughtfully brewed coffee, pick up local groceries, or unwind with a glass of wine or a draft beer. This mix of functions makes it especially appealing to locals looking for more than just a quick caffeine fix.

The café side offers a solid lineup of coffee basics—from drip coffee to cappuccinos and lattes—all priced reasonably and served with care. The space includes some cozy indoor seating alongside a small patio, which invites casual hangouts on sunny afternoons or early evenings. It’s a popular spot for those who appreciate supporting local roasters, as the coffee beans and related products spotlight Toronto’s artisanal scene.

Beyond the café, the market shelves showcase a carefully curated selection of local and specialty goods—think craft spirits, unique snacks, and even everyday essentials like frozen meals and laundry products. For residents nearby, this means fewer trips to big-box stores and more opportunities to discover items from other Toronto-based businesses. The layout and design feel warm and inviting, with attention paid to creating an environment that encourages browsing and lingering rather than just rushing in and out.

When the sun goes down, the bar element comes into play, featuring a modest but well-rounded drink menu including draft lagers, margaritas, and wine by the glass. This makes it a nice evening spot for a casual drink, whether you’re dropping in solo after work or meeting a small group of friends. The atmosphere remains approachable and familiar rather than flashy.

City Cottage Market suits anyone who values community connection through local goods and a friendly atmosphere. It’s especially great for nearby residents who want a convenient place to grab high-quality coffee or a carefully sourced bottle of wine while also exploring niche grocery finds. The best times to visit appear to be mid-mornings and late afternoons when the café hums with activity but still feels calm enough to relax or catch up on some reading.

Overall, City Cottage Market serves as a neighborhood hub where the boundaries between coffee shop, market, and bar overlap in a way that feels naturally integrated into the Scarborough strip it occupies. It works well for solo visitors needing a quick caffeine boost, foodies hunting for hard-to-find local products, and those seeking a low-key spot to enjoy a drink without the pretense of downtown bars.

Such a gem! If you love to support local businesses you def have to come here, they carry so many different items from other Toronto businesses. Especially happy to be able to get some De Mello coffee in the area

This is the second location for City Cottage Market which opened recently at Kingston and Birchmount area. I think this store fits really well in this strip of shops as it carries local product as well as specialty products I've seen online but never in store before. I think it designed really well. They have a small cafe area where you can have a beverage or coffee on the patio or at the tables in the restaurant. My one wish is that the markup was not so high on some of the items. The Momofuku items for example appeared to be marked up by $10 which does not incline me to buy them from this shop. The markup on items is the reason I took 1 star off the review.

Couldn’t be happier to have City Cottage Market in the neighborhood. This incredible bodega brings a thoughtfully curated selection of goods you won’t find in most places, all with a strong focus on quality and local sourcing — from craft spirits and wines to unique treats. The owners have amazing taste. But more than just a shop, it fosters a real sense of community in an area that truly needed a catalyst for connection. Whether you’re a local or just passing through on your way to the Bluffs, it’s well worth a visit.

This cafe/market is exceptional for a number of reasons. Firstly they have such a warm, friendly, efficient and welcoming staff. They have a phenomenal assortment of local products which allows you to support the community while getting a well-prepared coffee and tasty treat. Lastly, the aesthetics of the cafe show taste, care and attention to detail. It's vibrant, it's warm and it's the best place to spend your morning. As a bonus, the owner is an insanely talented visual artist so you get to appreciate high quality art while your there. Very rare to see a cafe this good.

City Cottage Market has a nice little cafe with great coffee, pastries and sandwiches. They sell a variety of coffee beans to go (ie Pilot, DeMello and Detour). Among other market fare, they also sell sandwiches, salads, honeys, jams, fresh bread (from Blackbird & Co.), frozen prepared foods, wine & spirits.

I’m so happy we have a spot like this in the neighbourhood! Multipurpose and good gathering spot, I have visited here many times. Their patio is also nice on sunny days. Grocery items tend to be on the pricier end, but that’s to be expected.

More of a coffee shop than a market, and a pretty good coffee shop at that. They also have a fair bit of niche pantry and grocery products, so I get it. Recommend nonetheless.
